Your Opportunity We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Architect with deep expertise across both legacy and modern search platforms, with a strong focus on AWS OpenSearch. In this role, you will define the technical vision, architecture, and strategic direction of our enterprise search ecosystem. You will partner closely with engineering teams to design and deliver scalable, fault-tolerant, secure, and high-performance search solutions that power critical customer-facing applications. This is a highly influential and hands-on technical leadership role, shaping the future of how our organization indexes, searches, retrieves, and transforms large volumes of customer-facing data. This remote position is U.S.-based only (excluding U.S. territories).

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering and architecture
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with OpenSearch or Elasticsearch at significant operational scale
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, MIS, Computer Engineering or other technical related degree or equivalent experience
  • Strong experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred, AWS OpenSearch Service a plus)
  • Deep understanding of, distributed search and indexing architectures, cluster performance tuning and results ranking capabilities
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Java or Python
  • Proven experience designing high availability, mission critical, fully automated, large scale search systems

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of AWS Cloud Based tooling and solutions
  • Hands-on experience with OpenSearch or Elasticsearch
  • Highly motivated to innovate within the search space and willingness to be hands on

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary architect with a deep understanding of the EIS proprietary search platform, and design and implement the roadmap to a modern, scalable cloud-native search solution
  • Champion the adoption of advanced search capabilities including vector embeddings, hybrid search, NLP, relevancy optimization, and end-to-end observability and telemetry for search performance
  • Provide expert-level guidance in tuning OpenSearch clusters, including indexing strategies, data modeling, query optimization, and data lifecycle management
