The Principal AI Application Architect plays a pivotal role in leading the design and architecture of AI-powered solutions for the UpToDate product at Wolters Kluwer. This position is crucial for driving the transformation of UpToDate products by integrating the latest technologies in the rapidly evolving AI landscape. The architect will be responsible for creating solutions that consider various critical factors such as scalability, performance, resilience, availability, maintainability, security, deployment, testing, and monitoring needs. The role requires a deep understanding of AI technologies and collaboration with data scientists to develop responsible solutions that meet business objectives. In this position, the architect will lead the design and architecture of the entire AI solution, including its integration into web and mobile applications. This involves identifying opportunities to leverage AI technologies, such as Generative AI and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and integrating AI into analytics solutions. The architect will also investigate and recommend technologies, tools, and frameworks that can accelerate the delivery of AI solutions, creating proof-of-concept activities to guide technology decisions. Balancing upfront planning with agile implementation is essential, as is experimenting with different prompt structures to achieve desired results. The Principal AI Application Architect will serve as a trusted technical advisor and mentor to development teams, helping to remove technical impediments and providing proactive guidance on best practices for re-use, design for scale, and operational efficiency. Collaboration with product management and engineering teams is vital to ensure that technical concerns are addressed and that product requirements are met effectively. The architect must be highly engaged with the products to create designs that consider current challenges and future needs, ultimately enabling development teams to accelerate delivery and enhance productivity without compromising quality.
