Role Description The Artificial Intelligence Client Service (AICS) group at Fractal works with Fortune 500 companies to help them leverage their data using AI, Generative AI, and advanced algorithms to generate business value by empowering human decisions. The AICS group is looking for a Principal AI Scientist for the Life Sciences practice, to manage & grow a portfolio of accounts, lead strategic client relationships, advise Clients’ & Fractal’s leadership on latest research and best practices, and inform Fractal’s strategy on AI in Life Sciences. This is a senior-level leadership role requiring strong technical and executive skills.

Requirements

• Strong programing skills in at least one numerical computing language: Python or R
• Strong understanding in areas of traditional statistical analysis, Bayesian modeling, traditional ML, Deep Learning, RL and optimization. Deep specialization in at least two of these areas.
• Deep understanding of AI/GenAI algorithms from first principles
• Strong knowledge of DS coding best practices – version control, code linting and testing, cloud environments and the Linux OS
• Strong understanding of operationalizing AI on Cloud environments
• Executive presence – ability to consult and build relationships with senior leadership at clients and Fractal.
• Intellectual agility & stamina – ability to learn adjacent technical skills quickly and continuously, ability to give and use constructive feedback effectively.
• Ambition and flexibility – ability to start by oneself, own outcomes, and doing what it takes.
• Empathetic collaboration – ability to empathize with clients & teams across functional roles, geographies, and cultures.
• 10 or more years of demonstrated experience in driving real-world value by delivering AI led programs requiring complex technical & technological abilities
• Experience in consulting senior leadership roles on strategy, business value generation, and AI research
• Experience in managing cross-functional & distributed teams
• Graduate/under-graduate degree in any of the quantitatively rich disciplines such as Computer Science / Mathematics / Physics / Operations Research [experience trumps degree]

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with our sales and account managers to meet client executives, understand their AI strategy gaps and advise them on how Fractal’s IP, staff, and prior experience can help them bridge these gaps.
• Work closely with our marketing and skill-development team to organize client facing as well as internal events to disseminate latest developments in our AI projects & research.
• Attend Client Advisory Board meetings, participating in industry events, helping the marketing team write research reports, give media interviews etc.
• Help Sell transformational AI led engagements.
• Join sales calls as an AI expert to understand the needs of our clients and prospects.
• Lead or co-lead teams that respond to the Request for Information/Proposal from our clients and prospects.
• Help write project proposals for several clients which includes drafting solution architecture, assessing staffing & skill mix for project delivery, establishing project schedule and delivery plans.
• Work with our Account and Engagement managers to plan out the AI part of their P&L statements and prepare sales pitches tailored to our clients’ needs.
• Deliver projects with cross-functional teams and bill time on engagements.
• Hire, staff, and manage teams of AI Engineers, AI, and MLOps professionals.
• Grow and mentor a team of senior AI leaders to improve AICS team’s profitable growth and market brand.
• Own key client accounts and grow them through strategic interventions.
• Contribute to our IP development initiative and evangelize them to our executive group, clients, board and help shape Fractal AI strategy.
