About The Position

At GE Appliances, a Haier company, we come together to make “good things, for life.” As the fastest-growing appliance company in the U.S., we’re powered by creators, thinkers and makers who believe that anything is possible and that there’s always a better way. We believe in the power of our people and in giving them the freedom to explore, discover and build good things, together. The GE Appliances philosophy, backed by three simple commitments defines the way we work, invent, create, do business, and serve our communities: we come together, we always look for a better way, and we create possibilities. Interested in joining us on our journey? We are seeking an experienced Principal AME Controls Engineer to play a key role in designing and deploying advanced automation solutions within our manufacturing operations. This position focuses on automation supporting the manufacture and assembly of plastic components and offers the opportunity to shape how next-generation equipment is brought to life on the factory floor. This role is ideal for a controls engineer who enjoys thinking beyond “how it’s always been done,” translating innovative ideas into practical, scalable control system solutions. You will be a technical leader—owning complex automation projects from concept through implementation—while collaborating closely with cross-functional partners across engineering, manufacturing, and operations. This is an on-site role due to the hands-on nature of the work. We also prioritize flexible scheduling where possible to support work-life balance while delivering projects safely, on time, and with high quality.

  • 7+ years of hands-on & relevant controls engineering experience with automated manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • Experience with Rockwell Automation control systems, Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View.
  • Knowledge and practice of machine safety (ISO 13849).
  • Ability to work in large cross-functional teams and at multiple levels in the organization (both salaried and shop floor operators / skilled trades team members)
  • Good communication skills – will be expected to provide program report outs to cross-functional team
  • Ability to make decisions and willingness to take ownership of complex projects
  • Proficient in MS Office and AutoCAD
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical information to diverse audiences.

Nice To Haves

  • BS/MS degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Strong understanding of machine safety standards (e.g., ANSI/RIA R15.06, NFPA 79, ISO 13849) and the ability to apply them to system design.
  • TUV Certification in machine safety.
  • Experience with plastics automation

Responsibilities

  • Lead the specification, design, and implementation of advanced control systems for automated manufacturing equipment, ensuring alignment with internal standards, safety requirements, budgets, and performance goals.
  • Develop end-to-end control system architectures, including hardware and software selection (primarily Rockwell Automation platforms).
  • Create and implement PLC programs, HMI applications, and industrial network configurations.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to develop and refine manufacturing processes in line with industry best practices.
  • Analyze system performance data and implement improvements to drive efficiency, productivity, and safety.
  • Stay current on emerging automation, robotics, and machine safety technologies and apply them to new and existing systems.
  • Oversee controls implementation through commissioning and launch, ensuring project milestones are met.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex controls issues to minimize downtime and improve operational performance.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship, fostering innovation and continuous improvement within the engineering organization.
  • Lead machine safety risk assessments and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
