The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) keeps New York City healthy, safe, and clean by collecting, recycling, and disposing of waste, cleaning City streets and vacant lots, and clearing snow and ice. DSNY is the nation's largest municipal sanitation agency, with nearly 10,000 employees, 59 district garages, and a fleet of more than 5,000 trucks, cars, and other equipment. The Department clears litter, snow, and ice from approximately 6,500 miles of City streets and removes debris from vacant lots and abandoned vehicles from City streets. The Department of Sanitation’s Bureau of Legal Affairs (BLA), Office of Employment and Disciplinary Matters (OEDM), commonly referred to as the Advocate’s Office, is seeking to hire a Principal Administrative Associate. The Advocate’s Office provides legal counsel on employment and personnel matters and prosecutes employees charged with violating Department rules, policies and procedures, pursuant to civil service law. The Advocate holds in-house conferences with Union attorneys several times per month; cases that are not settled at in-house conferences are heard at the NYC Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings (OATH). When appropriate, the Department Advocate refers employee violations of the City Charter to the New York City Conflict of Interests Board (COIB) and/or Department of Investigation (DOI), and acts as liaison regarding discipline of those matters.
