About The Position

The Principal Additive Manufacturing Process Engineer will be challenged with solving unique and interesting problems to enable new commercial aerospace and defense products. They will be responsible for one or more of the following activities as they relate to the AMPCC, including leading process development activity to improve print capability, increase speed, reduce cost and enhance material performance in support of advanced RTX Business Unit product initiatives. The role involves driving AM Qualification efforts utilizing IQ, OQ and MQ with a strong collaborative RTX Business Unit cross functional team, developing and utilizing advanced tools and equipment to characterize machines and process space, and collaborating with government, industry, academic, and RTX Business Unit partners to develop whitepapers, project concepts, and responsive proposals. Additionally, the engineer will conduct RCCA activities on build failures, machine or process issues, or product performance gaps, and work with cross-functional teams including materials, design, simulation, operations, and characterization engineers to support and improve the full value stream.

Requirements

  • A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience.
  • Expertise in Additive Manufacturing tools and processes.
  • Scripting experience with Matlab, Python, VBA, JavaScript or similar.
  • Experience with software and tools used in Additive Manufacturing including CAD packages.
  • Experience with metal laser powder-bed-fusion AM equipment.
  • Working understanding of AM machine sensors and control systems.
  • US Citizenship required.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred candidates will have a PhD in Mechanical, Chemical, Manufacturing Engineering or related technical field.
  • Strong presentation, planning, problem solving, organizational, and project management skills.
