This role is part of the Technical Specialist Career Stream, an individual contributor with responsibility to advance existing technology or introduce new technology and therapies. The position involves formulating, delivering, and/or managing assigned projects and collaborating with stakeholders to achieve desired results. It may also involve mentoring colleagues or directing the work of lower-level professionals. The majority of time is dedicated to delivering R&D, systems, or initiatives related to new technologies or therapies, from design to implementation, while adhering to policies and utilizing specialized knowledge and skills. The role is recognized as an expert, managing large projects or processes with considerable autonomy and limited managerial oversight. It contributes to defining the direction for new products, processes, standards, or operational plans based on business strategy, with a significant impact on work group results, and may manage projects that extend beyond the immediate job area. The problems encountered are difficult, moderately complex, and undefined, requiring detailed information gathering, analysis, and investigation. The engineer develops solutions to moderately complex problems and makes moderate to significant improvements to processes, systems, or products independently to enhance performance. Communication involves representing the organization as a primary contact for specific projects and initiatives, interacting with internal and external customers and vendors at various levels, and influencing decision-making.

Requirements

  • Requires a Baccalaureate degree and minimum of 7 years of relevant experience OR Master's degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR PhD with 3 years relevant experience
  • For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for production support engineering with respect to testing methods, procedures, and problems
  • Responsible for device specification and yield problems
  • Responsible for minor redesign of devices and masks
  • Responsible for analysis of customer returns
  • Responsible for supplier related engineering changes and optimizing device production relative to cost constraints
  • Assumes responsibility for device and/or internally produced or externally purchased components after transfer into high-volume production
  • Usually responsible for entire device manufacturing operations other than wafer fabrication
  • May assist customer in device usage problems or customer testing of complex devices
  • Formulates, delivers and/or manages projects assigned and works with other stakeholders to achieve desired results
  • May act as a mentor to colleagues or may direct the work of other lower level professionals
  • Delivering R&D, systems or initiatives related to new technologies or therapies – from design to implementation - while adhering to policies, using specialized knowledge and skills
  • Coaches, reviews and delegates work to lower level specialists
  • Contributes to defining the direction for new products, processes, standards, or operational plans based on business strategy with a significant impact on work group results
  • May manage large projects or processes that span outside of immediate job area
  • Develops solutions to moderately complex problems, and/or makes moderate to significant improvements of processes, systems or products independently to enhance performance of job area
  • Implements solutions to problems
  • Represents organization as a primary contact for specific projects and initiatives; communicates with internal and external customers and vendors at various levels
  • May negotiate with others to reach understanding or agreement, and influence decision-making
  • Typically provides guidance, coaching and training to other employees within job area
  • Typically manages major / moderately complex projects, involving delegation of work and review of work products, at times acting as a team leader
