The Hardware Engineering, Air Launched Effectors Department is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our Tomahawk team as a Mechanical Engineer/Designer with a strong focus on technical leadership for implementation of new suppliers for Tomahawk airframe machined and machined casting components critical to the success of the program. The selected candidate will be responsible for assisting with the introduction of new suppliers, ensuring manufacturability of machined components, and supporting program goals through technical expertise. Travel will be required to support supplier engagement and implementation activities. The Tomahawk Mechanical Engineering team is responsible for providing technical support for production, recertification, and development efforts across the Tomahawk program. This includes overseeing and supporting the manufacturing, integration, and testing of mechanical components across all Tomahawk All-Up Round (AUR) configurations. In addition to the new supplier implementations, the scope of work encompasses ongoing support of existing suppliers for full-rate production, recertification, warranty missile returns, flight test AURs, and transitioning new configurations into production. Limited support for development program efforts will be expected as needed to facilitate transition to production.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience
  • Experience in mechanical component design ( i.e. ProE modeling and drawing)
  • Experience in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Active and existing security clearance required on day 1

Nice To Haves

  • Travel will be required regularly to support supplier engagement and implementation efforts.
  • Experience as a machinist with hands-on knowledge of machining processes and techniques.
  • Familiarity with the manufacturing and producibility of machined components.
  • Experience working with suppliers and supporting supplier development activities.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities and lead/direct small focused teams.
  • Experience with PTC Windchill Product Data Management or equivalent configuration/data management software
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supplier support and technical expertise to implement new suppliers for machined parts across the Tomahawk program and mentor Team colleagues concurrently.
  • Collaborate onsite with Tomahawk Operations Team to gather information on producibility issues and implement solutions and improvements for mechanical components.
  • Assist in the design and development of mechanical components as needed for production, including creating and reviewing ProE models and drawings and regular maintenance of drawings and specifications.
  • Apply expertise in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to ensure design intent and manufacturing precision.
  • Travel on a regular, planned basis to engage with suppliers, provide support, and oversee implementation activities.
  • Interface with Integration and Test teams to document various test hardware configurations.
