The Hardware Engineering, Air Launched Effectors Department is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our StormBreaker team as a Mechanical Engineer/Designer with a strong focus on technical leadership supporting full program life cycle, early development, production support, and legacy sustainment activities The Mechanical Engineering position is responsible for providing technical support for production, recertification, and development efforts across the StormBreaker program. This includes performing in alignment to expectations in the design, development, and production support areas associated with mechanical designs, validation principles, qualification processes, procurement, and production processes across a design life cycle. Development work may include requirements understanding, concept development, DFMAs, PFMAs, margin analysis, technical data package (TDP) development, application of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing principals, engineering test principals, preparation of technical analysis reports, and presenting in design reviews

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience
  • Experience in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) per ANSI Y14.5
  • Experience in CREO (Pro/E) or similar 3D solid modeling software
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Active and existing security clearance required on day 1

Nice To Haves

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; both verbal and written
  • Experience with PTC Windchill Product Data Management or equivalent configuration/data management software
  • Must possess strong technical writing and oral communication skills.
  • Must be able to work autonomously with minimal supervision.

  • Experience in a technical leadership role including experience across the development lifecycle
  • Advanced degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering, or hardware systems design.
  • Experience working development and production programs for products used in military applications.

  • Working knowledge of Military and Commercial Specifications.
  • Leadership experience with small teams (4-6 people)
  • Ability to travel to government and supplier facilities in support of program activities
  • Experience leading and conducting trade studies, development and design, requirements development and management, and integration and test of mechanical engineering products.
  • Experience working across multiple functional and discipline organizations to successfully resolve technical challenges.
  • Experience in the development, creation, release, and updates of mechanical technical data packages.
  • Experience in the review and interpretation of technical documentation in a production environment.
  • Demonstrated team player, self-driven leader with excellent collaboration skills.
  • Experience working with suppliers that develop mechanical products, machined parts, and electronics.
  • Experience in mechanical sub-systems packaging, materials, thermal, structural analysis, energetics principals, control systems, interconnect, airframe, or large assembly development
  • Supplier interaction and supplier management experience, both domestically and internationally
  • Understanding of EXIM and Global Trade processes
  • Familiarity working with JCAs
  • Earned Value Management System (CAM) trained and certified

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, sub-assemblies, for tactical missile systems and equipment in accordance with system requirements.
  • Lead mechanical engineering teams and collaborate across multiple disciplines with structural and thermal analysts, Materials Engineering, Quality, Safety, Supply Chain, Operations, and program leadership.
  • Support the factory and suppliers with product development, obsolescence, troubleshooting, domestically and internationally.
  • Interface with other engineering disciplines, non-technical disciplines, and suppliers to develop design solutions and resolve technical challenges.
  • Work with limited supervision and meet commitments for assigned schedule, financial, and technical goals.
  • Support and participate in design peer reviews, resolving action items, and conducting trade studies to make sound technical decisions.
  • Working knowledge of First Article Inspection process (FAI), work alongside Quality engineers in support of that in addition to Raytheon Source Inspection (RSI).
  • Apply knowledge and experience in technical problem solving and hardware development in a fast paced, team environment.
  • Mentor and guide a team of engineers within program.
  • Utilize Raytheon hardware tools and processes.
