About The Position

The Primary Art Teacher inspires creativity, curiosity, and artistic confidence in students in Grades 1–4. Rooted in the Episcopal tradition, the teacher fosters an inclusive, nurturing environment that honors each child as a unique creation of God while supporting the school’s mission of academic excellence, spiritual growth, and service.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or a related field
• Experience teaching elementary-aged children (Grades 1–4 preferred)
• Strong classroom management and organizational skills
• Commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment

Nice To Haves

• Teaching certification (state or equivalent)
• Experience in an independent, faith-based, or Episcopal school
• Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate art instruction
• Willingness to engage with the Episcopal ethos, regardless of personal faith tradition

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate visual arts instruction for students in Grades 1–4
• Introduce students to a variety of artistic media, techniques, and processes (e.g., drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media)
• Integrate art history, cultural awareness, and creative expression into lessons
• Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning styles and abilities
• Align curriculum with school standards and goals while encouraging exploration and creativity
• Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment
• Encourage creativity, self-expression, problem-solving, and fine motor skill development
• Support students’ social-emotional growth through collaborative and reflective art practices
• Assess student progress through projects, observation, and age-appropriate feedback
• Maintain clear and accurate records of student work and growth through 3 progress reports and 3 trimester report card grades.
• Communicate regularly with parents/guardians/administration regarding student progress and art-related activities
• Support and uphold the mission, values, and traditions of an Episcopal school
• Collaborate with classroom teachers and staff to support interdisciplinary learning
• Participate in school events, chapel services, and community activities as appropriate
• Contribute to art displays, exhibitions, and school-wide celebrations
• Maintain a safe, organized, and engaging art classroom
• Manage art supplies and budget responsibly
• Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school committees
• Stay current with best practices in elementary art education
