About The Position

CDHA has an opportunity for a full-time Primary Clinical Assistant in its Billingsley Road location. The Primary Clinical Assistant supports Physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, and Registered Nurses in delivering safe, comprehensive, compassionate, and culturally sensitive gastrointestinal and hepatology care. This role plays an essential part in promoting patient satisfaction, clinical efficiency, and high-quality care coordination.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Two-year certificate from an accredited college or technical school; or a minimum of one year related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One to three years of related experience and/or clinical training preferred.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong attention to detail required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications required.
  • Must hold certification from one of the following national organizations: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) – National Healthcareer Association (NHA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) – National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), Medical Technologist (AMT), Completion of a formal medical services training program in the United States Armed Forces
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Must possess the following vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly required to talk and hear while interacting with patients, providers, and staff.
  • Frequently required to stand for extended periods and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Occasionally required to sit.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively as part of a team focused on delivering high-quality patient care and ensuring patient satisfaction.
  • Ensures patient safety at all times.
  • Interacts with patients in a professional and friendly manner; responds promptly to patient needs including prescription refills, authorizations, appointment scheduling, and referrals.
  • Completes medication pre-certifications and authorization requests.
  • Updates laboratory orders with current diagnosis codes.
  • Communicates the patient’s chief complaint, current symptoms, and abnormal findings to the provider.
  • Assists with the collection of body fluid specimens for laboratory testing; completes lab requisitions and prepares specimens for pickup.
  • Documents medical information accurately in the EHR and communicates relevant information to appropriate team members in a timely manner.
  • Maintains patient charts with current data and medical history to meet Meaningful Use/quality requirements, including task closure for coordination of care.
  • Manages the patient portal, including prescription refill requests.
  • Submits provider template change requests as needed.
  • Educates patients about conditions, procedures, and the plan of care.
  • Ensures that orders for procedures, labs, and imaging are scheduled, completed, and routed back to the provider promptly.
  • Understands and assists with breath tests, PillCam placement, and other specialized GI procedures as directed.
  • Follows up with patients to ensure progression of their care plan and assesses treatment compliance; completes reminder calls as needed.
  • Answers incoming calls, responds to inquiries, triages patient calls according to protocol—including sick calls—and directs callers appropriately.
  • Schedules office and telehealth appointments and enters accurate information into the electronic scheduler.
  • Coordinates patient referrals with insurance companies and external physician offices.
  • Upholds the CDHA mission by contributing to organizational goals, supporting leadership, and fostering teamwork for the benefit of patients.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to quality and participates in continual improvement efforts to maintain a service-excellence environment.
  • Adheres to all safety protocols and regulatory requirements related to infection control, patient confidentiality, and compliance (e.g., HIPAA, OSHA, AAAHC).
  • Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of responsibility.
