About The Position

Opportunity Awaits, Apply Today! – Primary Care Nurse Practitioner The Oregon State Hospital (OSH), a division of the Oregon Health Authority, is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Primary Care Nurse Practitioner to join our multidisciplinary team. This position provides non-psychiatric medical evaluation and treatment for adults with severe mental illness in an inpatient psychiatric setting. This position works in collaboration with psychiatric attending providers, who maintain primary responsibility for the overall plan of care. This position serves as a medical consultant to the interdisciplinary treatment team, addressing acute and chronic medical conditions, supporting coordinated care, and contributing to integrated, whole-person treatment planning. On-site medical care includes cardiology with echo cardiogram and EEG, podiatry, speech and language pathology, physical and occupational therapy, dentistry, and optometry, and partners with local hospitals for other specialties. Services include psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment, as well as community outreach and peer support. The mission of the Oregon State Hospital is to provide therapeutic, evidence-based, patient-centered treatment focusing on recovery and community reintegration all in a safe environment. Under the direction of the Oregon Health Authority, the Oregon State Hospital (OSH) operates campuses in Salem, Junction City and Pendleton to provide patient-centered, psychiatric treatment for adults from throughout the state who need psychiatric inpatient care. Requirements

  • A current Nurse Practitioners and Registered Nurse license issued by the Oregon State Board of Nursing.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience applying principles of empathy and compassion in clinical practice, including active listening, timely follow-up, and collaborative problem-solving with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Demonstrated experience providing primary medical care to patients with complex mental health needs in partnership with attending psychiatrists on interdisciplinary treatment teams.
  • Experience working collaboratively with unit psychiatrists preventing and treating metabolic syndrome caused by anti-psychotic medications.
  • Demonstrated experience managing time effectively, working independently, and meeting established timelines and deadlines.
  • Experience working effectively in a high-acuity, unpredictable environment, while remaining calm and organized, and creating clarity and continuity of care.
  • Experience providing general medicine phone consultations to physicians and staff.
  • Experience representing a clinical role in public-facing and organizational settings, including participation on committees, workgroups, or cross-functional initiatives within a public or institutional environment.
  • FNP/ANP/DNP degree
  • Board certification/board eligible preferred.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with primary care experience.
