We are a non-profit, FQHC-LAL providing medical, behavioral health, case management, community outreach, diabetes education, and pharmacy services. We are proud to offer gender equity medicine, syringe exchange, and HIV/Hep C treatment, testing and other services within our communities. Southwest Care Center is currently seeking an experienced full-time Medical Assistant. The positions are located at our Clinics in Santa Fe, NM. Position Details: Reporting to the Clinic Manager, the Medical Assistant will perform routine, evidence-based patient care and administrative duties to assist medical providers in executing the plan of care under the supervision of a licensed medical provider. This role will provide support that promotes provider efficiency and productivity through effective facilitation of workflows, anticipation of physician needs, and chart preparation. The medical assistant is responsible for modeling professionalism, meeting expective performance levels of the position, demonstrating the values of the organization, and most importantly providing patient-focused care. This role will serve as a change agent and patient advocate using good judgment, initiative, critical-thinking, and effective communication at all times.

Requirements

  • Minimum one (1) year of medical assistant experience preferably in family medical practice setting.
  • Minimum High School Equivalent or GED.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program highly desired.
  • Valid National Medical Assistant Certification (i.e., CMAA credential)
  • Basic Life Support.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer three (3) years with one (1) year in a lead role.

Responsibilities

  • Screens patients according to established protocols (i.e., obtaining vital signs, height, weight, vision/hearing testing) and any other procedures directed by the supervising provider/Clinic Manager.
  • Performs accurate charting in medical record in accordance with established SCC policies and procedures.
  • Provide assistance to nurses and providers as needed.
  • Maintain exam rooms and work areas (i.e., keeping well‐stocked, orderly, and clean, to include disinfecting exam tables between patients as per infection control policy).
  • Perform phlebotomy/fingerstick as permitted by training.
  • Administers injections according to position requirements and as trained.
  • Perform procedures, as ordered, and trained.
  • Able to accurately make/cancel/reschedule appointments in the appointment system.
  • Able to follow‐up on appointment to determine patient compliance and contact patients to reschedule (no‐show policy).
  • Maintain strict infection control (i.e., sterilizing instruments, performing procedures, needle disposal, etc.).
  • Understand all emergency protocols and respond accordingly.
  • Have current knowledge of and participate in maintenance of drug assistance programs.
  • Understand and assist in the referral process of patients to outside services or providers.
  • Follow‐up on patient referrals, as necessary.
  • Understand mandatory reporting of child/elder abuse policy and procedure.
  • Understand and utilize the Vaccine program where applicable and document accurately on forms and vaccine administration records.
  • Counsel patients per treatment plan (i.e., diet, exercise, medication, etc.) as assigned.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Provide culturally sensitive care.
  • Perform in‐house waived testing, after they are quality controlled, which may include some or all of the following: pregnancy tests, hemocue/Hemoglobin, glucometer, urine dip, hemoccult‐stool, oraquick, or throat swab.
  • Each test will be done according to directions/procedure with results logged in patients medical record.
  • Point of Care Testing and quality controls.
  • Other duties as assigned.
