About The Position

The Preventive Maintenance Technician supports the Senior HVAC Technician in the repair, maintenance, and preservation of the College’s mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to changing air filters, greasing pumps, cleaning HVAC cores, replacing belts, lubricating and replacing bearings, servicing pumps and motors, general electrical and plumbing services in addition to maintaining equipment and inventory relevant to the department.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of hands-on experience in electrical, mechanical, and/or plumbing trades in any combination of: Installation/repair/maintenance (e.g., wiring, breakers, switches, motors, pumps, pipes, valves, etc.).
  • Troubleshooting (e.g., diagnostics, identify malfunctioning components, system faults, etc.).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact professionally with students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.). to create documents, manage data, prepare reports, and support daily operations, as needed.
  • Knowledge of HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems, including installation, repair, and maintenance of pumps, motors, valves, pipes, and fittings.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and the proper use of industrial electrical equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate tools and equipment required for preventive maintenance and repair work.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow blueprints, schematics, and technical plans.
  • Ability to work safely from ladders, lifts, scaffolding, and in confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as required to perform job duties.
  • Ability to operate an automatic or manual transmission vehicle.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and seek assistance as needed to complete work safely.

  • Certified electrical journeyman.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repair, maintenance, and preservation tasks on HVAC, electrical, and other building systems.
  • Troubleshoot motors, controllers, and other system components to identify and resolve operational issues.
  • Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance (PM) on assigned equipment according to established schedules.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance, and repairs to track equipment performance.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals to guide maintenance and repair work.
  • Assist with inventory management, including ordering and tracking parts and supplies needed for maintenance tasks.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to plan and execute maintenance projects efficiently and safely.
  • Respond promptly to emergency repair requests to restore functionality and minimize downtime.
  • Actively participate in college functions as required by supervisor.
  • Assist with general maintenance tasks and support special events as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
