About The Position

The Prevention Specialist of the Cambridge Domestic and Gender-Based Violence Prevention Initiative, reporting directly to the Coordinator of the Initiative, will coordinate the development and implementation of domestic and gender-based violence prevention strategies aimed at the Cambridge community and will serve as the principal resource to the Initiative's Coordinator. The Specialist will work alongside the Coordinator to formulate and implement population specific and age appropriate prevention and intervention methods for domestic and gender-based violence. The Specialist will work in collaboration with members of the Steering Committee and the organizations they represent as well as city department staff to execute research based prevention methods across the city. The Specialist must be able to effectively develop and implement the Initiative's outreach and prevention efforts within the schools and broader community.

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of experience in Violence Prevention, Human Services, Social Work, Public Health or related field OR Bachelor's degree+ 2 years in relevant field
• Minimum of 1 year experience working specifically with survivors of violence, for example survivors of community violence, domestic violence or sexual violence
• Knowledge of the impact of multiple forms of violence and trauma on children, families, adults and communities
• Commitment to understanding the impact of structural and institutional racism, and other forms of oppression, as well as advocating for strategies to promote justice and healing
• Demonstrated ability to provide strong leadership and effective coordination of outreach, training, and prevention efforts
• Demonstrated ability to interact successfully and sensitively across cultural, racial, age, gender and other differences
• Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong prioritization and multitasking skills
• Demonstrated ability to take initiative and problem solve quickly
• Ability to demonstrate initiative, flexibility, and dependability in an environment with frequent interruptions and competing priorities
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
• Strong interpersonal skills including ability to practice self-reflection, give and receive constructive feedback, and build meaningful relationships and partnerships with providers across different sectors, youth, parents/caregivers, adults and elders
• Demonstrated intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Forms, Teams, and SharePoint); proficiency with cloud-based systems and virtual meeting platforms
• Experience with or ability to learn tools such as Canva and other graphic design programs
• Commitment to public service

Responsibilities

• Collaboratively create outreach, prevention, and intervention strategies for various communities
• Uplift resilience, strengths-based, survivor-centered and equitable approaches to safety and healing for those impacted by DGBV to key stakeholders
• Provide educational content on Domestic and Gender-Based Violence prevention to school and youth-serving staff tailored to the age, development stage and needs of the youth being served
• Identify, develop, and oversee specific training content for youth identified as peer leaders, youth-serving staff and others; develop a process to evaluate effectiveness of training
• Develop and maintain partnerships with local universities to develop peer leadership groups and provide ongoing prevention education and guidance
• Create and disseminate tailored, effective, culturally and linguistically specific materials and content on social media and in hard copy in the form of posters and brochures
• Provide on-going support and collaboration to various groups to sustain prevention efforts
• Build and foster collaborations across a variety of sectors including local service providers, city departments, community groups and others
• Provide case consultations for city employees when requested
• Attend trainings and use other educational methods to stay up to date on current best practices
• Perform related duties as required
