About The Position

This position is responsible for providing the planned sequence of culturally relevant, evidence-based strategies, which are designed to reduce the likelihood of or delay the onset of mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. Prevention services involve a variety of strategies and delivery methods to the community.

Requirements

  • Education: HS Diploma with Prevention certification (Registered applicant) and CDCA or higher.
  • Experience: Prior work in Prevention services, behavioral health, or social services.
  • Certification: First Aid; CPR; De-escalation; Medication Monitoring.
  • Other: Valid Ohio driver’s license; proof of automobile liability insurance; access to an operational vehicle, meets ODMH licensure and certification requirements; competencies for serving families and children.
  • Knowledge of: Safety rules and procedures, Agency policies and procedures, Greene County area and resources, daily living tasks and skills, documentation requirements.
  • Skills: Driving, operating basic household appliances and tools, directing, and demonstrating activities of daily living, i.e., Cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping.
  • Abilities: Lifting to 25 pounds, writing legibly or use of computer, ability to communicate information clearly, ability to recognize unusual or threatening conditions related to persons with disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead educational, prevention groups such as anti-bullying, anger management, stress management, organizational skills and time management, substance abuse education and prevention, mental health: suicide prevention and education to teachers and students.
  • Assist in research and develop curriculum of evidence-based and appropriate prevention strategies based on the community's needs and priorities.
  • Provide mental health screenings that may identify at-risk students struggling with mental health problems such as depression or suicide.
  • Conduct prevention presentations in various locations and with various population groups, including school classes, businesses, and community groups.
  • Provide teacher and school counselor consultation: for example, the Prevention Specialist may have designated hours each week at each school; attend discipline IAT meetings for at risk students to link to services at TCN. The Prevention Specialist may participate in school Open Houses or Health Fairs.
  • Outreach to at risk youth and families: as referred by teachers or school counselors and linked to the appropriate services as needed.
  • Training on subjects of interest to teachers, such as suicide prevention, anti-bullying, anti-violence, (i.e., warning signs of troubled students that may have mental health problems), or how to link to resources in the community such as FSC or TCN.
  • Works effectively and collaboratively with schools, agency referral sources or other community partners.
  • Meet agency expectations for productivity for the Prevention Specialist position.
  • Complete all necessary documentation, outcome reports and statistical reports within required timelines.
  • Administer Client Satisfaction Surveys of Prevention activities per agency standards.
  • Maintains and completes all required documentation in the Electronic Medical Record as indicated and meets all required timelines for completion of documentation.
  • Participates in and is on time for all mandatory staff meetings, case reviews, treatment meetings and supervision.
  • Has no unexcused absence from any unit, department, and mandatory Agency meetings and training.
  • Maintains license or registration appropriate to profession and appropriate to job requirement, including appropriate amount of continuing education at all times of employment.
  • Maintains agency-required annual training including client rights and grievances, safety training, infection control, and others as required by ODMH/ODADAS.
  • Remains free from citations by other providers or by consumers for unethical practice and meets the standard for own profession.
  • Adheres to all organizational and departmental policies, including compliance with all behavioral and ethical expectations.
  • Participate in weekly supervision with manager.
