About The Position

The Prevention Services Specialist implements an evidence-based curriculum in community schools and organizes community events and projects under the direct supervision of the Prevention Services Director. The role involves coordinating community needs assessments, gathering and reporting data, and promoting linguistic and cultural competence. The specialist will also conduct outreach, provide leadership, and maintain relationships with community partners to deliver holistic services. Additionally, the position requires organizing special events and providing substance abuse prevention curricula to high school students.

Requirements

  • Fluency in Spanish, bicultural applicants strongly preferred.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with peers, individual clients, and groups.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize as needed.
  • Initiative and big-picture thinking.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a social services field preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Windows, the Microsoft Office Suite, and general data entry.
  • Must pass TB Test and background check.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to educate community members and peers on program objectives.
  • 1-2 years of prevention or community education experience preferred.
  • Ability to travel within Chicago.
  • Ability to travel out of state for several trainings.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate development and application of community needs assessment with community stakeholders.
  • Gather and report data; assist in the interpretation and implementation of community needs assessment data.
  • Attend scheduled meetings, conferences, and coalitions, as well as developmental trainings.
  • Ensure and promote linguistic and cultural competence.
  • Promote participation in the Illinois Youth Survey (IYS) and assist in the administration of the survey.
  • Conduct outreach to and establish and maintain relationships with appropriate sources.
  • Provide leadership, presentations, and collaboration with community partners.
  • Keep informed of trends and best practices related to the programs and populations served.
  • Provide program resources on relevant topics.
  • Meet with school administration to build relationships and organize implementation of evidence-based curriculum.
  • Provide parent and youth education services to community members.
  • Attend community meetings and maintain a strong presence in the community.
  • Organize special events, including a prescription drug take-back event.
  • Provide substance abuse prevention curricula to high school students in classroom settings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
