About The Position

Supervises employees, and manages print processes in the sheetfed pressroom. SHIFT: 6:00pm - 6:00am, rotating

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Print trade school and/or 15 years of work experience in the printing industry.
  • Front-line shift or department Supervision experience.
  • Technical skills - specifically hands on knowledge of KBA and Heidelberg presses.
  • Possess a reasonable level of computer literacy and basic software knowledge.
  • Displays a Servant Leadership style of management.
  • Knowledge of pressroom procedures & documents, and how to find them online.
  • Knowledge of press maintenance expectations
  • Ability to develop new techniques for improving efficiency and productivity.
  • Ability to anticipate problems and implement solutions to avoid them.
  • Ability to communicate and understand written and verbal instructions.
  • Basic math including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Knowledge of company policies and procedures and how to find them online.
  • Model the behavior to create a safe work environment.
  • Knowledge of production materials (stocks, ink, coatings, etc.).
  • Knowledge of G7 / GRACoL color management tools and techniques.
  • Ability to lift, push and pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to visually inspect all work for defects and distinguish colors.
  • Frequent reaching, bending, climbing, kneeling, crouching, and stooping.
  • Manual dexterity for repetitive work.
  • Frequent walking and standing.

Responsibilities

  • Look ahead to confirm the presses have the materials and information they need to continue on schedule and to avoid any work stoppages.
  • Actively manage issues that are creating delays.
  • Work with other departments when they are involved to resolve issues quickly.
  • Monitor the schedule and accurately document in the Press Supervisor’s shift report the reasons a press is not on schedule.
  • Present on the floor at shift change and monitor production and employees during this period.
  • Assist customers, sales, Project Manager’s, and press crews to achieve desired color match when necessary.
  • Be present at all customer and/or sales press checks, whenever possible.
  • Provide written feedback to Planning, Customer Service, EPP, etc. regarding improvement opportunities or incorrect information via the Production Job Ticket Issues email group.
  • Inspect for SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) compliance consistently as the rounds are being made throughout the department.
  • Verify that jobs are being produced to all the information supplied along with approving and double checking their work.
  • Verify that maintenance is being done including signing off on maintenance sheets in the Logbooks.
  • Set expectations with your shift for cleanliness and organization in the pressroom.
  • Communicate important issues to the Pressroom Manager.
  • Create a PRESS CALCULATOR email when actual production time has exceeded the budget due to customer or sales directives. (Time spent on press checks with a customer, customer supplied paper claim, etc.)
  • Make sure the operators are also punching properly (remarks codes, notes, PE, or AA, etc.).
  • Complete performance reviews and communicate with team members goals and expectations set throughout the year.
  • Cover Sundays according to the rotation schedule.
  • Other duties as assigned.
