About The Position

The Southern California News Group (SCNG) is seeking a Press Operator to join the team. This role will introduce you to Reelroom Operations and general tasks, such as Runsheet Comprehension and Roll Identification. You will be responsible for identifying and preparing rolls to run on press, general housekeeping, press cleanup, and maintaining the necessary tools. Additionally, you will be introduced to setting ink, plating up press, and webbing press. This is a fully onsite, night shift role in Riverside, CA.

Requirements

  • Previous printing press experience preferred.
  • Must be willing to work the night shift, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to stand, bend, climb, reach and kneel repeatedly during an 8 hour shift.
  • Strong verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Exhibit competency in press console operations.
  • Ability to read and understand mark ups for page location and color positions on all runs.
  • Can properly plate and remove plates, remove and install blankets, and purge black and color ink rails.
  • Competency in achieving ink and water balances, and density targets during press runs.
  • Specific vision abilities including close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Responsibilities

  • Analyze Imposition Run Sheets to accurately determine the required roll sizes for press runs, planning and preparing rolls for multiple concurrent jobs on your assigned shift to optimize press efficiency.
  • Conduct thorough roll inspections, identifying any damage and preparing rolls for use by applying double-sided tape and constructing Running Paster Patterns.
  • Become proficient in reel operation through hands-on training and consistent practice.
  • Adhere to safety procedures at all times, maintaining a safe and organized work area throughout your shift, including sweeping, mopping, and managing oil and debris.
  • Continuously develop your troubleshooting skills and expand your knowledge of press operations to diagnose web failures, identifying the root causes of breaks and unit malfunctions.
  • Actively participate in press setup and cleanup, providing guidance and support to colleagues as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and management regarding work processes and any issues that arise.
  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of the web path and demonstrate proficiency in running the press.
