About The Position

Pressing veneer into plywood utilizing the functions of the hot press through manipulation of controls, loading, and unloading. Maintain the time, temperature, and the pressure of the hot press by following press schedule. Keep a safe and clean work environment by removing obstructing debris. Operator must communicate with the Line Tender to ensure quality standards are met.

Requirements

• Must have excellent hand eye coordination.
• Use vision/hearing continuously.
• Reading and speech required to communicate comprehension of Job Hazard Analysis, machine specific lockout procedures, monthly safety training, etc.
• Operators must be self-directed in identifying and efficiently completing each task.
• Ability to prioritize, organize and make necessary decisions.

Responsibilities

• Guide loads of un-pressed veneer into the press area through manipulation of controls and buttons.
• Ride on an elevator with the unit of veneer and loads several layers of veneer into one press opening at a time.
• Complete this operation within one and half minutes to prevent the glue from drying in press.
• Close the press by manipulation of controls.
• Set the time, heat and pressure based on panel thickness and species of veneer used.
• Operate a computer-based inventory system which prints tickets to attach to pressed wood.
• Assist Co-Workers or maintenance personnel in basic maintenance and upkeep of machine.
