Requirements

  • 1-2 years metal stamping press and die setting experience.
  • Results-oriented team player, excellent attendance, high energy level and good attention to detail.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment safely.
  • Ability to use gauges, tooling and other equipment used in die setting.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor such as bolting dies into the presses, etc.
  • Understanding of fundamental operation of press equipment and tooling.
  • Must be able to work required hours.
  • Ability to read and write and comprehend instructions in English and correspondence such as safety rules and operating instructions.
  • Ability to document forms as required by position.
  • Must be able to communicate in both written and spoken English.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.
  • Knowledge of AS400.
  • Ability to use bar code labeling system.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to use active listening.
  • Ability to give positive and constructive feedback effectively.
  • Understands and can apply 5 Why mythology, creativity to find robust and effective solutions to problems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform coil changes (Align the die, steel, feeder, etc. and secure the equipment as required).
  • Set up Peripheral equipment such as guards, conveyors, lubricators, and unloading devices.
  • Perform related labor as required to clean up, set up, and organize.
  • Facilitate activities in work cell to ensure achievement of OEE targets.
  • Support the Environmental Management System and objectives.
  • Supports MAFACT Implementation and lean manufacturing practices.
  • Supports 5S implementation and workplace organization.
  • Complete and maintain all required paperwork such as white boards, quality checks, production reporting forms, checklists etc.
  • Follow Standard work and participate actively in improving Standard work.
  • Participate in Kaizen workshops to remove waste in the process and improve safety in the facility.
  • Obtain first piece approval before die set is complete.
  • Responsible to ensure that all safety and quality start-up procedures are followed.
  • Responsible to produce quality parts according to customer specifications.
  • Responsible to perform all required quality checks utilizing gages and other measuring devices.
  • Responsible to support Die setters with changeovers and responsible for minor adjustments like finger adjustments.
  • Follow tagging and labeling requirements.
  • Report any injuries, accidents, equipment malfunctions, miss hits, property damage, near miss incidences etc. to Team Leader.
  • Responsible to accurately report production including coil ends.
  • Responsible to communicate with team members (Supervisor, Leader, Quality, Co-workers) on any issues with the machines.
  • Have an understanding of what the cause of the issue is and which team member to inform.
  • Support on the Job training with all non-cyclic work assignments for other press operators.
  • Attend and participate in team and employee meetings.
  • Treats team members with dignity and respect and in accordance with the Magna Employee’s Charter and Common Values.
  • Participates in continuous improvement activities, submits improvement suggestions (CI, Safety).
  • Ensure that company policies and procedures are adhered to including IATF16949, ISO14001 (EMS), Mafact and Employee Handbook.
  • Follows MIOSHA and MPTSH safety regulations and policies, including wearing required P.P.E. (Personal Protective Equipment) and Lockout.
  • Reports unsafe conditions to Supervisor/Leader.
  • Complies with the designated ISO / 14001 responsibilities related to effective environmental management in accordance with MPT’s Environmental Management System (EMS).
