Summary Lays out and bends metal stock or work pieces such as castings, and plates to indicate location, dimensions, and tolerances necessary for further processing such as machining, welding, or assembly by performing the following duties.

Requirements

Candidates must be able to pass a post-employment physical test and drug screening
Must be 18 years old

Responsibilities

Studies blueprint, sketch, model, or other specifications and plans layout.
Examines work piece and verifies such requirements as dimensions and squareness.
Lifts and positions work piece in relation to surface to bend.
Verifies position with measuring instruments such as gauge blocks, height gauges, and dial indicators.
Determines reference points and computes layout dimensions.
Sets indicators on height gauge, protractor, or layout machine to computed dimensions, or projects dimensions by setting indicators to specified locations on model and moving instrument or machine so that indicators bear on corresponding locations on work piece.
Bends layout points.
Marks or scribes layout lines.
Works to tolerances as close as plus 0.Positions model in parallel relationship to work piece.
Inspects machined parts to verify conformance to specifications.
