Requirements

  • As a Press Assistant, your job is to measure, set, and maintain various materials for the printing equipment.
  • Able to work any shift to meet customer demands.
  • Able to work overtime as required.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Great attendance.
  • Possess a good mechanical aptitude and intermediate math skills.
  • Able to use hand tools to setup and adjust equipment.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Experienced in using rulers, calipers, and other measuring devices.
  • Physically capable of lifting to 60# occasionally.
  • Knowledge of how to read machine blueprints and parts lists.
  • Physically capable of bending, kneeling, standing/walking on cement floors for long periods of time.

Responsibilities

  • Need to be able to operate a log stacker and a compensating stacker that builds neat logs and skids to ensure good running ability in the bindery.
  • Must inspect product quality during the press run for (squareness of fold, page numbers, lap, marking of product from press or stacker, and overall print quality)
  • Must know how to setup and operate local and remote piece weight scales.
  • Knowledge of general maintenance and proper cleaning of strappers and log stackers.
  • Needs to be able to give good accurate product count at end of each press run.
  • Must place skid tag on each finished skid and place skid in proper location.
  • After each run is completed, the off-bearer will setup his stacker equipment to the proper specifications for the next job and assist the press crew with setup and make-ready of press.
  • General cleaning -- make sure press area is always kept clean -- floor swept, trash cans and boxes empty, press wiped down.
