About The Position

Dewberry Design‑Builders Inc. (DDB), part of the broader Dewberry enterprise—which also includes Dewberry Engineers Inc. and Dewberry Architects Inc.—is seeking a dynamic, hands‑on President in the Raleigh, NC or Fairfax, VA area to lead its $60 million integrated design‑build organization into its next phase of strategic growth that includes a long‑term $125M+ annual revenue strategic target. Reporting directly to the CEO of Dewberry, this executive will guide a national team delivering complex projects across the energy, water/wastewater, community facilities renovation, municipal/federal facilities, telecommunications, and EV-charging markets. Operating with a fully integrated “One‑Dewberry” model, the enterprise unifies engineering, architecture, and construction expertise to deliver exceptional alternative‑delivery solutions for clients nationwide. The President of DDB plays a central role in advancing this enterprise‑wide collaboration. Requirements

  • Minimum 20 years of relevant industry experience, including at least 15 years of leadership in alternative delivery, with direct construction and design‑build responsibilities.
  • Proven ability to lead and scale a design‑build business from approximately $60–$75 million in annual revenue to $125 million or more, through disciplined operations, market expansion, and enterprise collaboration.
  • Deep experience in one or more of the following markets is essential: Energy (utility‑owned facilities, substations, renewable energy systems) Water and wastewater (treatment systems, pumping stations, municipal infrastructure) Community facilities renovations (mechanical, electrical, roofing, system upgrades)
  • Proven success leading a nationwide, multi‑office, multidiscipline organizations. Recent alternative delivery experience in Southern California, the Mid-Atlantic and/or the Carolina’s is strongly desired
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering, construction management, or related field preferred.
  • Strong financial management capabilities with a demonstrated track record managing a $75M+ design-build business while improving operational performance and managing risk.
  • Ability to build trusted client relationships and lead organizations through growth, change, and operational complexity.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic direction, business planning, and growth initiatives of DDB, ensuring strong alignment with the Dewberry enterprise.
  • Expand DDB’s market share across key sectors—including energy, water/wastewater, and community facility renovation—while strengthening competitive positioning.
  • Drive operational excellence, profitability, and long‑term performance of the design‑build practice.
  • Oversee the development, improvement, and consistency of operational processes across offices and project teams.
  • Guide budget development and financial performance, including margin optimization, forecasting, and cost management.
  • Implement data‑driven monitoring systems that enhance organizational agility and proactive decision‑making.
  • Demonstrate hands‑on leadership through deep immersion in project, operational, and business details—ensuring issues are identified early, understood fully, and resolved decisively.
  • Serve as a senior executive representative for high‑value clients and mission‑critical pursuits.
  • Advance integrated sales initiatives across Dewberry Engineers Inc., Dewberry Architects Inc., and DDB, maximizing enterprise‑wide synergy.
  • Maintain visible leadership positions in industry, community, and professional organizations.
  • Cultivate a high‑performance, collaborative culture grounded in Dewberry’s core values and “Dewberry at Work” principles.
  • Inspire, mentor, and develop leaders across DDB and throughout the Dewberry enterprise.
  • Model a leadership style that combines strategic perspective with practical, in‑the‑field engagement, reinforcing accountability, transparency, and alignment among multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strengthen cross‑office and cross‑discipline collaboration to support seamless, integrated project delivery.
