About The Position

Tierra Right of Way Services is seeking a full-time Preserve Manager to manage, patrol, inspect, and maintain the Salt River Project’s San Pedro Riparian River Preserve property. We offer a full benefits package including on-site housing, as the Preserve Manager is stationed at the San Pedro River Preserve. Housing is included on-site. The preferred candidate will be on-site 5-days per week, including some weekends. Supervisory Responsibilities: This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities. Essential Functions and Requirements: Manages the 823-acre property in accordance with the Property Management Plan in support of the Roosevelt Lake Habitat Conservation Plan. Patrols the property weekly to inspect the condition and integrity of the boundary fencing, gated access points, water gaps, washes, the river corridor, buildings, and other infrastructure. Repairs fencing as necessary and maintains on-site roads, trails, and access points. Inspects and maintains the property, including roads, boundary signs, buildings and structures, well pumps, and other equipment as needed. Conducts building maintenance for the onsite residence, headquarters building, and well sites. Collects hydrologic monitoring data for instream flow measurements and depth to groundwater at select piezometer locations. Responsible for manual vegetation management and fire safety and control. Assists with habitat and wildlife monitoring. Maintains rapport and communication with neighbors and local law enforcement officials, including working with neighbors to address fence repair and maintenance and trespass cattle. Coordinates with on-site contractors, work crews, interested visitors, and watershed cooperators. Communicates with Salt River Project’s Habitat Conservation Plan Program Manager regarding operation and maintenance activities and preserve management priorities. Prepare quarterly reports summarizing management activities and expenditures. Performs other related responsibilities as needed. Future activities could include management of ~6,000 acres of adjacent grazing allotment lands. Currently these lands are patrolled; future obligations could include working with a cattle sublease.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in biological science, natural resources, or other related disciplines appropriate to the position.

  • General knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations related to land management and endangered species

  • Experience with 4x4 vehicles, off highway vehicles, and small and large tractors
  • Experience with infrastructure maintenance – road, trail, and fence repair
  • Experience with building maintenance – residential and headquarter general upkeep and minor repairs
  • Ability to use global positioning system (GPS) technology
  • Ability to conduct field surveys, botanical, wildlife, and avian species; compile, manipulate, and analyze biological and spatial data
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work
  • Ability to work independently and apply decision-making skills
