YOUR ROLE AS A VAN DRIVER Under the general supervision of the ELC Director, the Van Driver plays a crucial role in safeguarding the health, safety, and welfare of children, staff, and volunteers during transportation to and from the center and on field trips. This position requires a commitment to maintaining a clean, well-functioning van at all times while determining and following safe and efficient routes. The Van Driver ensures all children are secured in age-appropriate safety restraints and assists in maintaining appropriate child-to-staff ratios on the van. Additionally, they manage essential transportation records and conduct monthly van evacuation drills. In case of emergencies, the Van Driver is responsible for the safe evacuation of children. Serving as a vital link between parents and the Early Learning Center, this role is fundamental in fostering a supportive community for families. WHAT MATTERS MOST To excel as a Van Driver for Early Learning Center, candidates must possess a valid Ohio Driver's License and demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and child welfare. A current or willingness to obtain certification in First Aid and CPR for all age groups is essential, ensuring that you are prepared to handle any emergencies that may arise during transportation. With 2-3 years of prior experience working with children, you should demonstrate empathy, excellent communication skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Strong organizational skills are necessary for maintaining transportation records and ensuring that the van is clean and in proper working condition. Additionally, proficiency in problem-solving will help you navigate safe and efficient van routes while fostering a supportive and welcoming environment for the children and staff on board.
