About The Position

Summary : The Head Start/Early Head Start Floating teacher supports the care, supervision and educational programs for toddlers and pre-school children that is consistent with Head Start/Early Head Start program’s philosophy and goals. The Floating teacher substitutes in classrooms as needed to maintain required ratios and provide a safe and supportive learning environment for children. The Rover develops relationships with teachers and children throughout the Center to facilitate continuity of care for the children we serve.

Requirements

  • California Child Development Teacher Permit or higher level (To obtain information about the California Child Development Permit click here )
  • Possess a minimum of three (3) semester units in early childhood development with a focus on infant and toddler development.
  • Rovers will be required to obtain an additional three (3) infant and toddler units within the first year of employment, ensuring a total of six (6) infant and toddler units.
  • One (1) year experience in a classroom or group setting in a licensed childcare center serving children under five years of age.
  • Knowledge of the theories and principles of toddler and preschool growth and development, responsive care, early childhood education, and family support.
  • First Aid Pediatric CPR Certification (can be provided if needed)
  • Must have the use of an automobile and must possess a valid California Driver’s license and adequate automobile insurance coverage
  • Must possess and maintain criminal background clearance.
  • Must meet immunization requirements including pertussis, measles, and flu, Covid-19 vaccination, clear health exam, and proof of TB clearance.
  • Understanding of and ability to use technology and other agency required programs.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Education, or closely related field. If Rover does not have an Associate’s degree, they will be required to have a professional development plan that clearly describes a pathway and timeframes to Associate’s Degree
  • Experience with Creative Curriculum preferred.
  • Experience working in an Early Head Start/Head Start Program.
  • Experience working with children with disabilities and cognitive delays.
  • Bilingual in Spanish

Responsibilities

  • Assists in preparing lesson plans and outlines for assigned areas
  • Assists in the implementation of the Individualized plans for the children in the classroom.
  • Provides basic evaluative information to the classroom Teacher on the progress and development status of the children in the classroom.
  • Acts out stories.
  • Assists with screening and assessment functions.
  • Demonstrates and uses audiovisual equipment and other classroom resources.
  • Assists in ensuring the implementation of safe and supervised indoor and outdoor activities of children in the Early Head Start and/or Head Start Education Programs.
  • Assists children during snack and meal time, and helps demonstrate appropriate dental and personal hygiene.
  • Conducts daily inspections of indoor and outdoor facilities and reports and removes hazards.
  • Assists teachers in preparing and maintaining attendance records.
  • Supervises the classroom for brief periods when the Teacher is on-site, but away from the classroom.
  • Adheres to established Standard of Conduct, and ensures confidentiality and mandated reporter requirements.
  • Continues with data-driven professional growth, inclusive of action planning, coaching, and completion of at least 15 hours of professional development annually.
  • Attends all meetings and trainings as required and directed.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
