We’re looking for two passionate and experienced Temporary Lead Preschool Teachers to cover leave of absences on our team. These are full-time roles, Monday–Friday, 8am–5pm or 9am-6pm, for approximately 8–12 weeks — a wonderful opportunity to make a real difference in children’s lives while working alongside a caring, collaborative team.

  • At least a Step 7 in the Oregon Registry (ORO), or the ability to attain it within 30 days of hire
  • Enrollment in the Oregon Central Background Registry
  • Current Adult & Pediatric First Aid, CPR & AED certification

  • Communicate clearly and warmly with families and colleagues
  • Stay calm and exercise sound judgment in challenging situations
  • Are committed to equity, inclusion, and respectful interactions
  • Can sit on the floor, lift up to 40 lbs, and stay active with children indoors and outdoors

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement a play-based, developmentally appropriate curriculum aligned with Oregon’s Early Learning standards and VHFLC’s philosophy
  • Supervise and engage preschool-aged children in activities that spark creativity, exploration, and problem-solving
  • Create and maintain a safe, welcoming classroom that supports children’s autonomy and cooperation
  • Build warm, professional relationships with children and families through daily communication and family conferences
  • Use positive guidance techniques to support self-regulation and conflict resolution
  • Maintain health, safety, and documentation standards — including incident reports, medication logs, and developmental observations
  • Collaborate with the ECE Site Director and teaching team to continuously improve the learning environment

Benefits

  • A supportive, collaborative team with a child-centered, equity-focused mission
  • Paid training and continuing education incentives
  • Opportunities for professional growth within the organization
