About The Position

The International Mission Board, a nonprofit religious organization in Richmond, VA, is hiring for a Preschool Teacher. Location: Rockville, VA Rate: commensurate with experience The Preschool Teacher will create, deliver and evaluate custom designed curricula to prepare young children (infants to 5 years old) for cross cultural life and custom designed curricula to help young children transition to a stateside environment. The Preschool Teacher will provide day-to-day classroom leadership including teaching, ensuring they feel safe and loved, providing transitional support, supervising assistants, communicating with parents, coworkers and directors, and ensuring a clean, safe, and appropriately stimulating environment for learning.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree, preferred
  • At least 2 years working with infants, toddlers or preschoolers in childcare or development program required
  • Current first aid and CPR certification preferred
  • Effective verbal and written communication
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, Workday/ERP systems
  • Must be flexible to work with various age groups as needed.
  • Current or willing to get the TDAP and FLU vaccine to work in some classrooms.
  • Ability to lift and carry infants up to 20 pounds as needed
  • Physically able to lift and move young children safely, as well as navigate on and off the floor within a classroom setting.
  • Possess the stamina and agility to perform repetitive tasks such as squatting, bending, and standing for extended periods.

Nice To Haves

  • Overseas experience is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers effective instruction of the individualized curricula for multiple conferences annually.
  • Effectively stimulates development in the physical, cognitive, language, social / emotional, and spiritual domains through developmentally appropriate lessons and activities.
  • Provides emotional support to children in high states of transition by determining individual levels and triggers of stress.
  • Employs strategic methods to provide comfort and stress relief based on individual needs as students transition through the first days of class, until they feel comfortable and safe in their new surroundings, and again as they learn to say goodbye well at the end of each program.
  • Manage classroom climate throughout the session by using age-appropriate behavior management techniques.
  • Develops multiple individualized curricula based on the age and specific countries to which students will be transitioning - which will vary from session to session.
  • Designs developmentally appropriate lessons and activities that teach curriculum objectives while also targeting development in the physical, cognitive, language, social/emotional and spiritual domains.
