About The Position

A Preschool Teacher Assistant , at Thompson Child Development Center (TCDC), is responsible for providing high-quality daily care to children enrolled at the child development center, following the expectations and policies of Thompson, and adhering to the guidelines of Division of Child Development and Early Education. Care includes implementing daily lesson plans and documenting the child's progress, following center and classroom routines and working with a lead teacher, under the supervision of the director. A typical day as a Preschool Teacher Assistant will include Implement daily lesson plans and document the child's progress. Maintain the total quality of the classroom environment, focusing on cleanliness, order, state of repair, and the replenishment of supplies. Provide direct service and supervision to children, ensuring their safety and well-being. Establish appropriate and helpful relationships with other staff, mentors, family members, and support service providers. Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, conferences, workshops, and other career development and professional activities. Understand the cultural diversity of children and team members to better serve families. Perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, lifting, and moving items as required.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • have at least six SCH of post-high school coursework in Early Childhood Education
  • 2 years of early childhood teaching experience
  • Must have knowledge of regulations governed by DCDEE and Mecklenburg County Health Department standards
  • All potential job candidates must pass a drug screening test, and an extensive background check is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree in early childhood education preferred.
