About The Position

Under the direction of their supervisor and in accordance with Association policies, the Lead Teacher is responsible for coordinating daily activities in an early learning program and providing a safe and nurturing environment for early childhood-aged children.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have 320 hours of experience in an approved education setting.
  • Must have completed high school or equivalent.
  • Must meet all Child Care Licensing requirement including one of the following: Two DCF-approved courses in early childhood education (credit or non-credit); a Wisconsin Preschool or Infant-Toddler Credential; 48 credits from an institution of higher education with at least 3 credits in early childhood education; an Associate’s degree or higher in early childhood education; a Child Development Association credential; or otherwise qualified as a Teacher through The Wisconsin Child Care Registry.
  • Must be able and willing to obtain CPR, First Aid, AED, Abusive Head Trauma, and Wisconsin Child Care Registry certification.
  • Must have a sincere interest and ability to comprehend needs and develop positive outcomes in children from diverse populations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others.
  • Ability to relate effectively with diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Exhibit the core values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility in all aspects of their work with the YMCA.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans and actively participate in daily activities for children to engage students and monitor safety during all times of the day.
  • Serve as a role model to staff and participants.
  • Develop positive relationships will the staff, families, and children while providing motivational support and guidance, including parent conferences and handling complaints in a courteous, patient manner using problem solving techniques.
  • Maintain participant records and other documentation in accordance with department requirements.
  • Ensure safety and cleanliness of learning spaces and classrooms.
  • Follow the YMCA of Greater Waukesha County’s emergency procedures to ensure the safety of all children, including but not limited to, communicating with supervisor regarding any emergency concerns or situations.
  • Uphold the core values of the YMCA when working with people within the YMCA facilities and community.
  • Follow all relevant regulations from the Department of Children and Families, Young Star, or other regulatory agencies.
  • Attend all staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Other duties as necessary and as assigned by supervisor.
