About The Position

The AIU School-Based Paraprofessionals are responsible for supporting students in various educational settings. There are different types of paraprofessionals including Classroom Paraprofessionals, Building Paraprofessionals, Building Professionals At Large, Itinerant Paraprofessionals, and Pool Paraprofessional At-Large. Each type has specific assignments and responsibilities, with a focus on assisting students with special needs. All paraprofessionals follow the same duties as outlined in this job description.

Requirements

  • High School diploma required.
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent number of college credits (60) preferred.
  • 1-2 years’ experience working with children with special needs strongly preferred.
  • Training in crisis intervention, CPR, and First Aid preferred.
  • Ability to work as part of an educational team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to speak clearly and distinctly.
  • Ability to prioritize identified needs of students.

Nice To Haves

  • PATTAN Paraeducator Certificate preferred.
  • Experience in special education settings.

Responsibilities

  • Assists children to and from the bus at arrival and departure times.
  • Facilitates personal care services for students with activities of daily living.
  • Prepares and operates instructional equipment and materials as directed.
  • Assures safety measures are taken in emergencies until help arrives.
  • Maintains cleanliness and follows health guidelines in the classroom.
  • Updates attendance records and maintains confidentiality as required.
  • Assists with feeding students who are unable to feed themselves.
  • Assists students in using teaching devices and equipment.
  • Participates in parent/teacher and IEP conferences as requested.
  • Interacts and supervises students during various activities.
  • Performs reinforcement instructional services as delegated.
  • Follows and implements IEPs and behavioral intervention plans.
  • Attends required training for job performance.
  • Accompanies teachers and students on field trips.
  • Performs other educationally related duties as assigned.
