About The Position

The purpose of this job description is to report the functions, requirements, working conditions, and office responsibilities of the Preschool Director. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The Preschool Director is responsible for managing, planning, designing, implementing and evaluating the preschool program to provide a safe, healthy and educational learning environment for all children and families served in accordance with all regulations, including the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The Preschool Director will oversee the operations of the preschool program.

Requirements

  • Must have a current EEC Preschool Director I of Director II Certification.
  • Four-year degree in the field of early childhood education or related field or equivalent experience.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Knowledge of Early Childhood Development
  • Minimum one year management experience in a preschool setting or related field.
  • Knowledge of modern office methods working with computers, data entry and with Microsoft Office, email, and internet.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; above average interpersonal skills.
  • Honesty, integrity and operating as a team player are critical to this organization.
  • Exercise good judgment and maintain confidentiality of critical and sensitive information, records, and reports.
  • Understand, interpret, and apply EEC regulations, NAEYC standards and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to balance multiple assignments and adjust direction and priorities within fast paced and multi-faceted work environment.
  • Report to scheduled shift consistently and on time.
  • Follow policies, procedures and rules of the organization.
  • Maintain high program standards.
  • Be a strong advocate for the Club being a positive place to be.

Responsibilities

  • Overall supervision, administration, and functioning of the preschool program in accordance with established standards and goals.
  • Establish Preschool Program objectives consistent with organizational goals and mission.
  • Oversee the provision of day-to-day program operation in accordance with established standards and goals.
  • Ensure that members are encouraged to participate in a variety of program activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills for kindergarten readiness.
  • Supervise and lead staff, design program plans, and oversee daily activities.
  • Maintain program cleanliness.
  • Maintain good customer service, greet all members and visitors in a professional and courteous manner, and develop strong lines of communication with parents/guardians.
  • Observe teachers and advise on their classroom leadership, team collaboration, curriculum implementation, parent relationships and adherence to the mission of the preschool program.
  • Lead teachers to plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities in line with curriculum standards to nurture, stimulate, and meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs of the children to promote child growth and development.
  • Ensure children’s individual needs are met and children are challenged by adapting and varying instruction and curriculum.
  • Ensure activities conducted respond to children’s needs and address their gender and cultural diversity.
  • Interact with children to build a positive relationship with respect, trust and care. Provide children with assistance and encouragement.
  • Monitor all classrooms to maintain a safe and healthy environment. Classrooms are well ventilated, well lit, and equipment is maintained and in good working condition.
  • Responsible for maintaining children’s files and reports.
  • Ensure the preschool program complies with all EEC regulations and NAEYC standards.
  • Attend staff meetings, professional development, and conferences as needed and/or requested.
  • Conduct administrative duties which include, but are not limited to: intake of new families, hiring and training of new staff, maintaining staff records, maintaining inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Communicate problems or concerns to Director of Operations.
  • Manages the preschool department budget, which includes creating and working within the budget.
  • Observe, document, and monitor teachers’ professional development.
  • Conduct formal performance reviews and lead regular staff meetings.
  • Oversee concerns regarding children’s progress and any problems/issues.
  • Provides guidance and direction of teaching techniques.
  • Promote and participate in open and effective communication and support with teaching staff.
  • Ensure productive and effective performance by all staff.
  • Allocate and monitor work assigned to teaching staff providing ongoing feedback and regular appraisal.
  • Disseminate parent and staff surveys (year-end) and solicit feedback to continually improve the program.
  • Ensure staff are attending Professional Development opportunities to meet requirements of EEC.
  • A high level of enthusiasm, energy and commitment is demonstrated in personal contact with children and families.
  • Develop and maintain constructive and ongoing rapport with children and families.
  • Encourage family involvement.
  • Consult with parents concerning children and developmental development.
  • Maintain liaison with families, schools, business, and agencies within the community.
  • Demonstrate a continual commitment to consistent, meaningful, positive parent involvement as well as to the preschool program goals and objectives.
  • Preparation of all required documentation and materials for EEC.
  • May participate in special programs and/or events (i.e. Annual Auction, Youth of the Year, Award Programs), and/or participate in the implementation of other Club activities as necessary.
  • May be required to conduct and participate in various organizational fund-raisers.
  • May be required to assist in program areas outside of normal responsibilities.
