About The Position

Square One is a non-profit agency dedicated to serving children and families in the greater Springfield Area. The mission of Square One's Early Education Department is to foster the social, emotional, and academic growth of young children through high-quality early childhood education, in collaboration with their families and the community. The Center Director plays a pivotal role in ensuring that the education program is developmentally appropriate and tailored to meet the individual needs of children, while also adhering to the program standards set by Square One. In this role, the Center Director is responsible for the management of both preschool and school-age programs, ensuring compliance with all DEEC licensing requirements, and overseeing the professional development of educators and auxiliary staff. The Director must possess a strong understanding of developmentally appropriate practices and be able to implement all program requirements in accordance with performance and outcome standards, as well as compliance standards prescribed by Square One and the Department of Early Education and Care. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Education, preferably in Early Childhood Education, and hold a DEEC Director II certification. They should have four to six years of teaching experience in an early education and care program, along with two to four years of experience as a center-based director. Strong communication skills are essential, as the Director will need to collaborate effectively with families, professionals, and community groups. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred, as is experience working with complex partnerships and union staff. The Center Director will also be expected to stay current with developments in the field of child development and early childhood education to enhance their professional growth and contribute to program improvement.
