About The Position

Under the supervision of the Preschool Camp Coordinator and Preschool Camp Head Counselor, the Camp Counselor is responsible for the safety, supervision, and enjoyment of the Glencoe Park District campers. Counselors work at an assigned camp for campers ranging from age 3-5 years old. This position is assigned to a group of campers, ensuring proper supervision and engagement in camp activities.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years old or older by employee’s start date.
  • CPR/AED/First Aid certification upon hire.
  • Pass criminal background check that is paid for by the Glencoe Park District.
  • Philosophy of public recreation and ability to communicate it effectively.
  • Proven technical knowledge relevant to the position.
  • Dependable, flexible, and able to exercise sound judgment.
  • Strong safety awareness.
  • Ability to understand and follow rules and instructions.
  • Strong reading, writing, and organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous camp experiences are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, organizing, leading, and supervising group activities.
  • Understand, accept, and follow the camp's and Glencoe Park District's operational goals and objectives.
  • Communicate with your supervisors concerning problems, questions, or suggestions.
  • Be responsible for the health, safety, and personal well-being of campers.
  • Assist campers with skill development and encourage participation in activities and social interaction.
  • Report to work promptly at the time assigned.
  • Attend all camp trainings, field trips, special events and the 4th of July family event.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of and follow all general and departmental-specific safety rules.
  • Immediately report all accidents and unsafe conditions to the Preschool Camp Coordinator or Early Childhood Program & Admin Specialist, and complete and submit accident forms immediately.
  • Treat public complaints and concerns with the utmost attention. Be courteous in all cases.
  • Pay strict attention to the neatness of camp area(s) and general facility.
  • Dress appropriately for the position: gym shoes, camp shirt, appropriate length shorts or pants, no sandals or flip-flops.
  • Keep camp room, supplies, and equipment neat and in good condition.
  • Clean work area and camp room before leaving each day.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Preschool Camp Head Counselor, Preschool Camp Coordinator, Early Childhood Program & Admin Specialist, Early Childhood Director, and Director of Recreation and Facilities/Deputy Director.
