About The Position

A Catholic Preschool Assistant supports the lead preschool teacher in creating a Christ-centered, developmentally appropriate learning environment that fosters the spiritual, intellectual, social, and emotional growth of each young child. The assistant helps implement classroom routines, provides individualized support to students, and contributes to a joyful and nurturing environment in alignment with the mission and vision of the school, as outlined by the National Standards and Benchmarks for Effective Catholic Elementary and Secondary Schools (NSBECS).

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or coursework in early childhood education preferred.
  • Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church.
  • Familiarity with Catholic teachings and a commitment to faith-based education.
  • Previous experience working with young children in a school, daycare, or church setting preferred.
  • Strong communication, patience, and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic comfort with educational technology and classroom tools.

Responsibilities

  • Model and promote Catholic values in all interactions.
  • Support the lead teacher in integrating faith-based principles in classroom activities.
  • Help maintain a respectful, inclusive environment that reflects Catholic teachings.
  • Assist with preparation and participation in liturgies, prayer services, and religious celebrations.
  • Assist the lead teacher in preparing and organizing instructional materials.
  • Provide one-on-one or small-group support under the direction of the teacher.
  • Help reinforce learning activities during lessons and center time.
  • Support the use of educational technology and hands-on learning experiences.
  • Build positive, nurturing relationships with preschool students.
  • Help monitor student behavior and reinforce classroom expectations in a Christ-centered manner.
  • Observe and share student progress or concerns with the lead teacher.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming classroom environment.
  • Assist with daily routines, including transitions, snacks, rest time, and playtime.
  • Address minor behavioral issues and promptly inform the teacher of larger concerns.
  • Foster strong, respectful relationships with students, families, and fellow staff members.
  • Participate in classroom events, activities, and school service projects that promote Catholic values.
  • Serve as a positive role model of faith, kindness, and service.
