About The Position

Sakonnet Early Learning Center is hiring a motivated and caring Preschool Assistant Teacher to support our Pre-K (4–5-year-old) classroom. The Preschool Assistant Teacher partners with the Lead Teacher to deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction and to support daily classroom operations. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Experience working with preschool-age children in a child care center, preschool, camp, or similar setting
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and classroom support skills
  • Patient, dependable, and enthusiastic about play-based and child-centered learning

Nice To Haves

  • CDA, RIELDS coursework, or early childhood education training preferred
  • Comfort using digital parent communication platforms is a plus
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Lead Teacher with daily instruction and classroom activities for Pre-K students
  • Support learning experiences in literacy, math, science, STEM/STEAM, art, sensory play, and hands-on exploration
  • Help implement Creative Curriculum lesson plans and thematic units
  • Set up and maintain classroom learning centers and instructional materials
  • Promote social-emotional learning, positive behavior, and cooperative play
  • Observe and support children’s developmental progress and assist with documentation for portfolios and family communication
  • Communicate with families through the center’s parent engagement application (training provided)
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom in compliance with RIDHS child care licensing standards
  • Supervise children during indoor and outdoor activities while maintaining required ratios
  • Provide classroom coverage and float between classrooms when needed
  • Participate in team meetings, professional development, and required training
