About The Position

Working under general supervision, the Prep Technician I is responsible for modifying specific surfaces of precision parts using chemical and abrasive processes according to established specifications. This role involves monitoring equipment and processes, performing inspections to ensure product quality, and maintaining compliance with all safety and production standards. This Prep Technician job requires basic knowledge of computer systems.

Requirements

  • Good hand / eye coordination (fine motor skills, dexterity).
  • Able to use a microscope for extended periods of time.
  • Read, write, speak and comprehend the English language.
  • Moderate computer skills.
  • Able to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Work with hazardous chemicals.
  • Consistently notifies supervisor or designated personnel when tasks are completed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned by area Lead or Supervisor
  • Observe safety regulations and follow protective equipment requirements. Report hazardous observations to Management personnel.
  • Follow daily clean up and housekeeping procedures.
  • Comply with all quality, safety, and work-related rules and regulations.
  • The ability to complete tasks in a reasonably timely manner.
  • Demonstrate a basic ability to read and comprehend drawings and work instruction documentation.
  • Perform the following Prep functions:
  • Proficient usage of microscopes in accordance with drawings and quality requirements.
  • Ability to learn and use applicable area equipment.
  • Demonstrate the ability to accurately and efficiently use applicable measuring tools such as, but not limited to Calipers, Micrometers, Height Gage and Pin gauges to inspect dimension criteria.
  • Must be able to retain information and show continued progression towards a Prep Technician II role.
  • Must have the ability to work in harsh environments.
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned by area Lead or Supervisor
  • Ability to find and interpret Engineering Drawings to correctly determine requirements.
  • Develop strong understanding of the quality requirements of individual components and the finished products.
  • Learn to use the correct tools, techniques, and equipment necessary to process assemblies both prior to, and following, the Prep process.
  • Abrade connectors per drawing and procedure requirements.
  • Maintain workload by meeting or exceeding run times per part, while achieving departmental efficiency and quality standards.
  • Communicate effectively with the lead and supervisor regarding work status, issues, or material needs.
  • Must be able to learn how to operate various sandblast cabinets.
  • Adjust sandblast controls per drawing and process specifications.
  • Ability to load the hoppers with the correct blast media the Shop Process schedules, print requirements, and operation text
  • Perform in-process visual inspections under a microscope to verify compliance with quality standards and print specifications.
  • Operate sandblast and related surface preparation equipment safely and effectively.
  • Learn and follow proper disposal procedures for used blast media in accordance with environmental and company guidelines.
  • Adhere strictly to part-handling best practices to prevent damage or contamination.
  • Detect and report equipment malfunctions or irregularities in sandblast equipment performance.
  • Ability to operate equipment including the vapor degreaser, blue wave and ultra sonic machines.
  • Perform wash and passivation processes as directed by Shop Process documents, operation texts, and drawing requirements.
  • Load and unload parts or products into firing equipment using appropriate tools and handling procedures.
  • Adjust temperature and oxidizing times based on material requirements.
  • Document Prep data (time, oven temperature, rejects) accurately.
