About The Position

The historic Fox Theatre in midtown Atlanta, GA, seeks a qualified candidate for part-time Prep Cook. The Prep Cook at the Fox Theatre is an essential culinary team member responsible for preparing and organizing ingredients for service in the Marquee Club, Concessions, and special events. This role involves meticulously preparing vegetables, proteins, sauces, and other components according to standardized recipes, ensuring consistency in taste and presentation. As a Prep Cook, you will be using various kitchen equipment while strictly adhering to food safety and sanitation standards. Your strong organizational skills will be vital for managing an inventory of prepared items, labeling and dating food products, and maintaining an orderly kitchen environment. Collaboration with chefs and line cooks is not just a part of the job, it's a crucial aspect that contributes to a harmonious team atmosphere. As a Prep Cook, you'll assist in cooking during busy service periods, working together to deliver exceptional culinary experiences. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about culinary arts in a fast-paced, dynamic kitchen setting. Requirements

  • Basic cooking techniques and knowledge of food preparation methods, including chopping, slicing, and dicing.
  • Understanding of food safety and sanitation practices, including proper food handling, storage, and cleanliness.
  • Ability to manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment to meet prep deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure consistency in food quality and presentation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a culinary team and follow directions from chefs and supervisors.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing tasks and priorities in a dynamic kitchen environment.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a kitchen environment or food service setting, demonstrating familiarity with food preparation techniques and kitchen operations.
  • Must be able to work in a standing position an extended period of time.
  • May be exposed to temperature changes, handling both hot and cold food items.
  • The work environment is lively, with the need for excellent coordination and communication between various departments during busy events.
  • Ability to carry or lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Should be able to traverse the venue, including moving between floors.
  • Willing to work variable shifts including days, night, weekends, holidays, and evenings as requested.
  • Successful applicants must be able to pass a post-offer, pre-employment a background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Formal culinary training or coursework in cooking and food preparation.
  • Proficiency in the use of kitchen knives and other culinary tools.
  • Experience with reading and following recipes accurately to ensure consistency in food preparation.
  • Understanding of menu items and ingredients, including dietary restrictions and allergens.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding tasks and needs.
  • ServSafe or Food Handler Certification.
  • Prior experience in a high-volume food production environment is preferred, as it equips candidates with the ability to work efficiently under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Food preparation including washing, peeling, chopping, and preparing various ingredients as outlined in the menu specifications. This includes measuring and portioning ingredients for recipes, ensuring that all components are ready for the line cooks during service periods. Attention to detail is essential to maintain consistency and quality in every dish.
  • Adhere to health and safety standards by regularly sanitizing work areas, equipment, and utensils. This includes proper storage of food items, labeling and dating all prepared items, and discarding expired products to minimize waste.
  • Occasionally assist line cooks in food preparation and cooking during service hours. This could involve frying, grilling, or baking under supervision, ensuring that dishes are executed correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with chefs and other kitchen staff to foster a positive and collaborative environment. This includes actively participating in team meetings, communicating any challenges or needs during food preparation, and supporting fellow cooks during busy service periods.
  • The Prep Cook is responsible for the proper care and maintenance of kitchen tools and equipment. This includes regularly checking inventory levels of food supplies, alerting management when stock is low, and ensuring all kitchen tools are cleaned and stored properly after use to maintain a safe and efficient working environment.
