About The Position

Prep Cook-Full-Time Seasonal The Lakefront, Anchorage hotel (formerly the Millennium Hotel) is recruiting for full time seasonal, Prep Cook to join our team. At the Lakefront Anchorage Hotel, we strive to deliver a memorable experience for our guests. Situated on the shores of scenic Lake Spenard, one mile from Anchorage International Airport and four miles from downtown Anchorage, the Lakefront Anchorage Hotel is the perfect starting point to explore the many wonders Alaska has to offer. The Lakefront Anchorage Hotel boasts 248 rooms and three outstanding food and beverage outlets. The role of the Prep Cook is Prep cook has the task of preparing all raw food and ingredients for the line cooks and chefs who assemble and cook then it is served to customers in a tasteful and visually appealing manner.

Requirements

  • Ability to pay attention to small details, excellent reading comprehension skills and follows instructions.
  • Possesses knowledge of safe food handling procedures, sanitary kitchen conditions, proper hand washing techniques.
  • Has the ability to follow directions, able to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced, high stress environment
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills
  • Displays superior knife skills and can quickly and safely slice or chop meal ingredients into exact dimensions called for in the recipe
  • Has a strong sense of taste and smell as well as excellent hand and finger dexterity.
  • Previous restaurant kitchen experience
  • On-the-job training in knife use and safe and sanitary food handling procedures.
  • Ability to work hours that coincide with the restaurant’s hours including late nights and weekends.
  • Ability to work in a hot, busy kitchen.
  • Patience, tact and diplomacy.
  • Must have a valid food handlers’ card.

Responsibilities

  • Receives deliveries and stores food in refrigerators and freezers.
  • Cleans food preparation areas and removes garbage from the kitchen.
  • Makes lists of items that need to be ordered and assists in keeping the kitchen organized.
  • Rotates stock in containers to maintain freshness.
  • Prepares the ingredients for chefs to cook the entrees and meals that are offered on the menu.
  • Washes, chops, grates and slices vegetables to go in various dishes.
  • Cuts and slices meats to the appropriate portion sizes.
  • Makes appetizers, soups and salads.
  • May assist in preparing salads and fruit trays for functions with an appealing presentation.
  • Assists in cleaning the kitchen before closing for the night.
  • Complies with special food handling requirements for dishes such as vegan or gluten-free.
  • Work as a productive team member by contributing positive energy.
  • Perform the duties of the position in a safe manner.
  • Be professional in all interactions with associates.
