About The Position

The Prep Cook/Culinary Team position is a temporary role located in Boone, NC, within the Campus Dining department. The primary responsibility of this position is to prepare food in accordance with Campus Dining standards, ensuring quality, taste, and appearance. The role requires effective interaction with coworkers and vendors, the ability to work under rushed conditions, and knowledge of kitchen safety and terminology.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare food to meet quality, taste, and appearance standards.
  • Prepare products based on predictions from Cooks, Managers, and Supervisors.
  • Check and adjust thermostat to regulate temperature of cooking equipment.
  • Measure and mix ingredients according to recipes for various dishes.
  • Bake, roast, broil, fry, and steam various foods.
  • Add seasoning to foods during mixing or cooking.
  • Observe and test foods being cooked for proper doneness.
  • Carve meats and portion food for serving.
  • Wash, peel, cut, and shred vegetables and fruits.
  • Butcher chickens, fish, and shellfish.
  • Maintain proper usage and rotation of food.
  • Ensure food quality and appearance on buffet.
  • Alert chef or supervisor to any food quality issues.
  • Maintain par levels of stock and food prep items.
  • Maintain cleanliness of workstations and food storage areas.
  • Ensure food is prepared and plated within designated time frames.

Benefits

  • Hourly pay range of $14.00-$18.88, commensurate with competencies and market considerations.
