About The Position

The LunchMaster is a leading provider of nutritious meals for schools and community programs. We operate a high-volume production and distribution center in Hayward, CA, with a focus on quality, efficiency, and food safety. We are seeking a dedicated and efficient Prep Cook Crew Member to support our culinary operations. This role is essential in ensuring the timely preparation of ingredients and food items used in our daily meal production. The Prep Cook will work closely with the kitchen team to portion, chop, measure, and prepare components for high-volume food service.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a commercial kitchen or food prep environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic kitchen tools, equipment, and knife handling techniques.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Must work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Ability to follow recipes and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Team player with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Must be punctual, reliable, and detail-oriented.
  • Familiarity with food safety protocols (ServSafe certification a plus).

Nice To Haves

  • A working knowledge of the English language, both verbal and written; Spanish is a plus.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills coupled with the interpersonal skills are needed to create and maintain a team centered environment.

Responsibilities

  • Wash, peel, slice, chop, dice, and mince vegetables and other ingredients using both manual and automated cutting tools.
  • Prepare sauces, dressings, and marinades according to kitchen recipes and standards.
  • Portion ingredients into containers for production, storage, or assembly.
  • Operate food prep equipment, including commercial slicers, food processors, and manual/mechanical cutting devices, following all safety protocols.
  • Label, date, and store prepared ingredients in compliance with food safety guidelines.
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized workstation throughout the shift.
  • Follow prep sheets and kitchen production schedules to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  • Assist with kitchen clean-up, trash removal, and equipment sanitization as needed.
  • Adhere strictly to all food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards as required by HACCP, state, and federal regulations.
  • Early morning shifts required (start times as early as 5:00 AM).
  • Other duties as assigned.
