About The Position

PreK Teacher Assistant Works cooperatively with the lead teacher to support implementation of daily plans in accordance with the current curriculum and performs activities that ensure the safety, involvement, and creativity of each individual in the group. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Assists the teacher in planning and maintaining a safe, clean, learning environment and in assuring the well being and safety of the children in his/her care. Exhibits a genuine nurturing, caring attitude to all children. Plans with and assists the teacher in preparing materials and supplies in advance for activities. Assists the teacher in maintaining discipline and supervision of children during all activities. Assists teachers with small and large group activities. Supervise daily lunch and playground activities, field trips and walks. Performs any other task deemed necessary by the teacher and/or principal.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Option A: Hold an associate’s degree (or higher)
  • Option B: Completed at least two years (48 credit hours) of study at an institution of higher education
  • Option C: Passed the Oklahoma General Education (OGET) Test.
  • Option D: Pass the Praxis ParaProfessional Assessment Test (provided by WPS)
  • Must attend all training and professional development classes as requested by Weatherford Public Schools.
  • Must possess personal attributes needed to develop trusting relationships with children and adults.
  • Interactions expressive of genuine warmth and concern for children as well as an understanding of their developmental needs.
  • Respect for children’s ideas, feelings, abilities and differences.
  • Ability to assume needed duties and responsibilities without supervision.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to abide by all rules and regulations.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism at all times.
