About The Position

The Pre-K Paraprofessional at KIPP Kansas City plays a vital role in supporting the development and learning of young children in the classroom. This position is designed to assist the Pre-K teacher in providing a nurturing and engaging environment where children can explore, learn, and grow. The Pre-K Paraprofessional will work closely with students to promote their social, emotional, and cognitive development.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma (required).
  • Associate’s degree or completion of 60 college credit hours (preferred) or
  • Passed the ParaPro Assessment (before September 23, 2013) or
  • Passed the Paraprofessional Assessement through Pearson (between September 23, 2013 through June 20, 2024) or
  • Passed the ParaPro Assessment through ETS (July 1, 2024 forward) or
  • Completed the 20hours Substitute Certified Course
  • Experience working with students with disabilities and in a school setting
  • Satisfactory outcome of a background check

  • The person in this position needs to be able to move about inside and outside the school or office throughout the workday.
  • The candidate is expected to attend conferences, meetings and training sessions both virtually and in person within the Region.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Pre-K teacher in planning and implementing age-appropriate lessons and activities.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students during instructional time, reinforcing learning concepts and skills.
  • Help create a stimulating and organized classroom environment that fosters exploration and curiosity.
  • Support students in developing social skills and managing their emotions through positive reinforcement and guidance.
  • Assist in implementing classroom management strategies to maintain a positive and engaging learning atmosphere.
  • Collaborate with the Pre-K teacher to address individual student needs and support their behavioral and emotional growth.
  • Communicate effectively with the Pre-K teacher regarding student progress, challenges, and successes.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of strategies to support student learning and development.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information and adhere to school policies and procedures.
