About The Position

Global Support and Development is seeking to hire a Prehospital Medical Specialist (PHMS) / Paramedic. The position is full-time, in-person, and located at HQ in Charlotte, N.C. Reporting to the Field Operations Team Leads, The Prehospital Medical Specialist (PHMS) supports the delivery of high-quality medical care during disaster response and resilience missions, and will operate as an integrated member of the Field Response Team to enhance mission readiness and effectiveness. The PHMS will act as the lead medical provider for Field Response and Maritime Access Teams. This role will be responsible for providing expert medical guidance and consultation to team leads and GSD leadership, along with supporting the health and safety of team members through direct medical care and advisory support in the field.

Requirements

  • Six (6) years of relevant experience in a prehospital medical role;
  • Two (2) years of program management experience in austere/resource constrained environments outside of the continental United States (OCONUS);
  • Three (3) years of relevant experience operating as part of a team in a disaster response or humanitarian setting; and
  • Two (2) years experience building/training/leading teams in high-risk and/or austere, resource constrained environments.
  • Degree/education required for licensed practice in the State of North Carolina.
  • Valid state licensure (all licenses must be valid through the end of 2026) and board certification (as applicable);
  • Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) with prehospital/limited-resource and austere experience (Must have the ability to obtain a North Carolina PA or NP license); or
  • Paramedic (including SOF medic, PJ medic, Independent Duty Corpsman, IDMT); or
  • Flight Nurse or Flight Paramedic (with on-scene and transport experience); or
  • Registered Nurse meeting NREMT-Paramedic standards with advanced prehospital and austere practice; and
  • Registered Nurse or Flight Nurse must have ability to obtain and maintain NREMT-P and North Carolina EMS license and will be required to perform a minimum number of Paramedic role clinical shifts to maintain competency as provided by GSD; and
  • Must have (or be in the process of renewing) the following certifications:
  • BLS (Healthcare Provider)
  • ACLS
  • PALS
  • PHTLS (TCCC/TECC)
  • ATLS/ITLS
  • Must have or be able to gain and maintain Diver Medical Technician (DMT) certification via the National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology, which includes maintaining the ability to work in a hyperbaric chamber environment for diving operations; and
  • Ability to pass medical clearance for hyperbaric exposure (dive chamber);

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Flight Paramedic (FP-C), Certified Wilderness Paramedic (WP-C), Certified Critical Care Paramedic (CCP-C), Certified Tactical Paramedic (TP-C), Wilderness First Responder (WFR), Advanced Wilderness Life Support (AWLS), FEMA ICS 100 - 800 are desired.
  • Working knowledge of Spanish and/or French is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct health needs assessments during disaster responses;
  • Provide medical risk and medical threat assessments (pre-deployment & real-time);
  • Support Field Response Teams during response operations as a Response Specialist and provide Forward Response Team (FRT) medical support as required;
  • Provide medical support to the Maritime Access Team’s operations as required;
  • Participate in After Action Reviews (AARs), as well as collect and prepare data utilized in AARs, MEAL assessments, and strategic initiatives;
  • Provide non-medical operational support to local healthcare systems (EOC/ICS);
  • Identify gaps in medical infrastructure and support with Medical Mission Ready Packages;
  • Provide medical administrative support, including protocol review and development;
  • Directly support GSD disaster response and capacity-strengthening activities;
  • Participate in medical competency training and organizational training to maintain role-specific skills including, but not limited to, rapid needs assessments, the use of uncrewed aerial systems (UAS), debris clearance, team security and safety, internal team rescue, internal team communications, and internal team sustainment;
  • Prompt and action GSD’s core values of accountability, humility, and integrity in all work we conduct;
  • Promote good stewardship of financial and other resources to achieve maximum benefit to those impacted by disaster or at risk of impact; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
