About The Position

The Prefabrication Estimator is a key member of the Manufacturing and Prefabrication team responsible for developing accurate cost estimates for prefab electrical components, assemblies, and modular builds. This role ensures competitiveness, profitability, and continuous process improvement by analyzing production data, validating cost assumptions, and providing feedback to refine future estimates. The Estimator partners closely with BIM/VDC, Project Management, and Manufacturing teams to align design intent with manufacturing capability, optimize prefabrication strategies, and track cost performance against estimates. Sturgeon Electric’s Commercial and Industrial (C&I) electrical construction division specializes in large-scale commercial electrical projects, telecommunications, traffic signalization, gas distribution, high voltage distribution service and maintenance to clients. We also offer design-build and pre-construction services and has in-house pre-fabrication and AutoCAD capabilities.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in electrical estimating, manufacturing estimating, or prefabrication cost analysis
  • Solid experience with electrical construction methods, prefab assembly, or manufacturing workflows
  • Experience comparing estimated vs. actual performance
  • Strong analytical and data management skills
  • Ability to interpret BIM models, shop drawings, and manufacturing schematics
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and estimating software (Accubid, Trimble, or equivalent)
  • Excellent communication, organization
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Team-oriented mindset with ability to collaborate across departments
  • Self-motivated with ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or related field; combination of relevant education and experience considered in lieu of degree

Responsibilities

  • Prepare cost estimates and proposals for prefabricated electrical assemblies, racks, spools, and other manufactured components
  • Review drawings, BIM models, and production data to determine labor, material, and tooling requirements for each prefab scope
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing and BIM/VDC teams to develop accurate build strategies and identify opportunities for efficiency and standardization
  • Solicit and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotes for materials, components, and services related to prefab manufacturing
  • Track actual production labor and material costs against estimated values to develop and maintain a feedback loop for continuous improvement
  • Analyze variance reports and production metrics to identify trends, root causes, and corrective actions to improve estimating accuracy
  • Maintain databases of standard prefab assemblies, labor norms, and historical cost data for use in future estimates
  • Provide cost breakdowns and detailed takeoffs for review with Manufacturing Leadership and Project Management teams
  • Support prefab planning and scheduling by aligning estimates with production capacity, workflow, and delivery timelines
  • Participate in post-project reviews to capture lessons learned and incorporate findings into estimating models
  • Maintain organized records of estimates, assumptions, supplier quotes, and supporting documentation
  • Bring innovation and data-driven insight into the estimating process to increase accuracy, repeatability, and profitability
