About The Position

The position involves management, coordination, and delivery of the preconstruction phases of projects, providing technical leadership primarily focused on mass timber applications. Responsibilities include conducting feasibility studies, ensuring compliance with mass timber code requirements, and providing structural framing options that align with project goals. The role also entails acting as a document reviewer for constructability and value analysis, identifying project risks, and coordinating with various departments to ensure accurate estimates and project schedules. Additionally, the position requires financial management of preconstruction budgets and proposals, as well as business development support through engagement with project stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Engineering, Construction Management or Architectural degree, or equivalent experience.
  • Field construction experience (5-8 years, including supervisory skills).
  • Leadership ability and effective interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and sense of urgency.
  • Drafting and computer skills.
  • Fundamental knowledge of contract law and project accounting.
  • Thorough understanding of project management control systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform project feasibility studies for early-stage projects to identify appropriate applications of mass timber.
  • Provide structural framing options that meet project architectural, programmatic, and budgetary goals.
  • Act as document reviewer and advisor for constructability and value analysis.
  • Identify project risks and associated mitigation measures for the mass timber scope of work.
  • Coordinate with the Digital Construction department to provide mass timber feasibility drawings.
  • Plan and lead the preconstruction strategy meeting to ensure team alignment.
  • Prepare and analyze cost models during the Design Development period.
  • Create cash flow spreadsheets to set client expectations on financial commitments.
  • Seek procurement opportunities globally for cost-effective mass timber frames.
  • Create preliminary project schedules for design, procurement, fabrication, and installation activities.
  • Coordinate, manage, and supervise the work of subordinate preconstruction members.
  • Write preconstruction proposals with associated staffing plans and costs.
  • Provide monthly cost analysis for all active preconstruction assignments.
  • Manage preconstruction project budgets using cost control systems.
  • Write and submit owner billings.
  • Independently engage project stakeholders to earn project awards for Timberlab.
  • Present to the AEC community at industry events.
