The Preconstruction Manager is a significant role in Wight’s design-led design build delivery model and key to providing fully integrated services. The preconstruction Manager will work collaboratively with the Director of Integrated Services, Preconstruction Managers, Estimators, and Design and Construction Project Managers. Supporting preconstruction services on projects and pursuits the Preconstruction Manager’s expertise, specifically in project planning, will impact all departments and markets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture or Engineering.
  • 8+ years of applicable Preconstruction, design management and/or field management experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction principles/practices required.
  • Experience managing preconstruction on relevant projects.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build trust and influence across all disciplines.
  • Experience with project construction scheduling, estimating, bidding work, developing work scopes, and constructability, while maintaining a “value add” mindset.
  • Self-starter, highly motivated
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project required.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with logistics and phasing planning software’s such as CM Builder a plus.
  • Certification such as PSP (Planning & Scheduling Professional) a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development and champion the early established project vision and goals throughout the process and project.
  • Develop detailed project schedules using scheduling software (Microsoft Project).
  • Prepare logistics and phasing plans.
  • Review design documents for constructability and value engineering opportunities
  • Solicit input from subcontractors to provide budgetary information for estimates. Review for completeness and accuracy.
  • Work directly with the estimators, supporting their development of project estimates.
  • Maintain master subcontractor/vendor lists by trade.
  • Develop project scope of work documents for each trade.
  • Review scopes with subcontractors and participate in subcontractor selection process.
  • Develop General Conditions for review with management.
  • Stay current with the various design and construction tools, working with project teams and IT to evaluate the company’s technology platforms.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to newer staff in the development of their careers.
  • Work with the Director of Integrated Services, Director of Construction operations, and Project Executives on project pursuits.
