The Preclinical Research Unit ( PRU ) provides advanced technical services to the UNC community and external clients. The Research Technicians in PRU are critical to providing detail-oriented service within a fast-paced environment. Daily tasks vary widely, from colony management, precision injections, therapeutic dosing for studies, tumor measurements, blood collection, tissue collection, surgery, and Optical imaging (bioluminescent and fluorescent). We pride ourselves on technical expertise, consistency, and professional teamwork. This position will be trained to perform a wide range of techniques, such as SC, OG, IM, IV, IP, ID, IC, and RO injections in laboratory rodents. Employees must be comfortable handling experimental chemicals, chemotherapeutic agents, cell lines, and working in BSL2 environments. There’s future potential for technicians to grow in the role to further specialize in surgical, advanced techniques, and/or Optical Imaging studies. As essential employees, emergency duties are required during adverse weather and/or other emergency situations. Holiday and weekend work is required on a rotating basis. Occasional overtime is required.
