About The Position

Pacific Fusion is looking for a Precision Manufacturing Engineer to join our growing target fabrication team. You will work with a diverse group of talented engineers and physicists to develop processes and systems to deliver precision components and assemblies for use on Pacific Fusion’s pulsed power fusion system. You will be responsible for finding creative solutions to fabricate, assemble, and inspect a wide variety of target designs on the path to commercial fusion energy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or similar, a Master’s Degree or PhD is a plus
  • Knowledge of a wide variety of precision manufacturing techniques such as diamond turning, 5-axis milling, precision assembly, and metrology
  • Experience in CAD modeling and strong understanding of technical drawings and GD&T
  • Proven ability to design and plan integration of precision components into larger engineering systems
  • Ability to work through all stages of engineering development from prototype to high throughput production including process improvement through data-driven process engineering analysis
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with a variety of people including scientists, engineers, and technicians

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with high precision, small components down to millimeter scale with micron tolerances
  • Knowledge of modern metrology tools including non-contact optical, contact radiography, and tomography systems
  • Experience developing automated systems in a production environment
  • Solid foundation of material science and thin film fabrication techniques

Responsibilities

  • Work with a diverse team to fabricate precision components across a variety of fabrication techniques such as precision machining, electroplating, and coating
  • Research various fabrication techniques based on requirements, cost, and schedule needs to drive decisions for a best path forward
  • Understand engineering design intent to develop and establish inspection and measurement procedures
  • Work across teams and different working groups to understand production and quality requirements
  • Design and fabricate fixtures for machining, inspection, and part handling to support precision manufacturing operations
  • Develop new capabilities leading to a plan for manufacturing in a production environment
